Have you ever tried Microdermabrasion? What about Microneedling? Chemical peels? I’ve done them all. I suffered through horrendous acne as a teenager which left acne scarring as an adult that I’ve been trying to correct ever since. Basically, to correct scarring, you want to re-boost the collagen in your skin to repair that skin and while it may sound odd, the best way to boost collagen is to “re-damage” the skin (safely) so that the skin creates more collagen to “fill in” the damage. I’ve spent hundreds (well, honestly – thousands) of dollars on spa treatments and products and while many of them have worked – they’re expensive (and painful.) I was really looking for something I could do at home (consistently) that would bring results (without completely breaking the bank).
I saw the AMP MD Roller System released from Rodan & Fields a year or so ago and I was super intrigued by it but I was in the midst of doing the peels, the microneedling and the microdermabrasion stuff at the spa so I decided to hold off. It was about 3 months ago that I reached out to a friend who is an R&F rep and told her I was really considering trying this out and wanted some more details. Seeing some of these before & after pictures had me excited. While the “other” stuff I’ve done to my skin has helped immensely there is still a lot of room for improvement! The shipping was super quick and this little beauty arrived on my doorstep less than a week later.
The package arrived (always a fan of R&F packaging) and it included the AMP MD roller itself and the Redefine Intensive Renewing System.
Yep, those fun little blue droplets are full of the Intensive Renewing Serum that merges powerful Peptides with R+F exclusive Retinal-MD™ Technology, offering the highest potency Vitamin A available without a prescription. Pretty impressive, right? So as you use the roller “opening up” the skin you’re allowing the skin to really maximize on the serum that you’re putting onto your skin once you’re done rolling. They work hand in hand for you to get the best results! Open a capsule by twisting off the tail and smooth the serum over your entire face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Do not wash off.
And this little guy is the roller! The AMP MD Roller offers high-precision micro-exfoliation technology to gently and safely condition the skin with it’s little .2mm needles. It’s designed to visibility refine your skin tone and texture and reduce lines and wrinkles (along with scarring.)
I think the biggest question I had was… “Is it going to hurt?” And I’m sure you’re wondering that too. Nope, it doesn’t hurt! It almost kind of tickles? The needles are sharp but small and when you roll lightly over your skin it feels like a prickling sensation but not painful. I totally get a tickling sensation but maybe I’m a weirdo!
How often do you use it? They recommend using it at least 3 times a week. I found using it 4 nights a week was best for me so that’s what I went with! You’ll gently roll the skin with four to ten passes, changing direction with each pass. Total rolling time should be no more than one minute. They say for best results, use the roller on one section of your face at a time (forehead, left side, right side, chin and neck), completing each one before moving on to the next.
What does it cost? That was one of my first questions and I’m sure something you’re wondering too. It’s $220 for the set (and discounted if you are a Preferred Customer with R&F which I am). Now, yes that price tag does feel high BUT if you compare it to treatments/procedures that are designed to do the same thing you’re getting a really good deal. For example microneedling on average can be anywhere from $100 to $700 per session, and it is recommended that you undergo 4 to 6 treatments depending on the skin condition and your age. I was paying about $300/session and I did 6 sessions so you can see how quickly that adds up! It WAS amazing and really did help my skin BUT it’s definitely a big investment!
How do you keep it clean? Is it sanitary? Yes! R&F thought of this too. Every package comes with little sanitation tablets (16 of them) for you to clean your roller twice a week. You’ll fill the Cleansing Vial (the clear plastic tube that comes with the package) with very warm (not hot) water to marked fill line. Drop one Purification Tablet into water and immediately immerse AMP MD in purification solution, making sure that the AMP MD handle is locked securely into cap of Cleansing Vial and that the roller head is fully submerged. When blue color fades, approximately 15 minutes, remove AMP MD and rinse thoroughly under very warm running water. Do not allow AMP MD to remain in purification solution overnight.
Does it work? Obviously I looked at tons of before and afters and I was always pretty amazed at their results. I’ve been doing this for 2 months and I’m definitely impressed with my results!
EEEEK. Here come the (unedited) no make-up pictures. AHHH. Just kidding. Here we go. Obviously, left are the “before” pictures and right are the “afters”. I feel like it has made my skin brighter, smoother and evened out the skin texture on my cheeks (which is my problem area.) I also think the collagen has boosted in my cheeks and chin which reduces the appearance of the acne scarring.
The only thing I will say to make a note of is to NOT roll over active acne. As in, if you have a PMS cluster of pimples on your chin, do not roll over it. It’ll spread the bacteria and can make even more pimples pop up your face. So make sure you’re only rolling over skin that doesn’t have an active breakout going on. Plus… rolling over an active breakout would probably hurt too. So all in all, just avoid that!
Was it worth it? Definitely! It’ll be something I continue to use as part of my skincare regimen and I think my results will only continue to improve over time. I’m only 32 years old so while some people my age are like “eh, why are you worrying about aging skin” I feel like now is totally the time to pay attention to it, ya know? Do as much preemptively as we can!
So all in all I’m a HUGE fan and believer of the AMP MD roller and the R&F REDEFINE line. My rep is Melissa Jamron, she’s absolutely fantastic and I can’t recommend her enough. From start to finish she guided me through this process (and even virtually held my hand through the interwebz during the process.)
Her number is 631-721-7248 and her website is www.mjamron.myrandf.com If you contact her before ordering and mention this blog post she is giving away free gifts with every preferred customer order (and remember, the preferred customer gets a discounted price as well.)
